BATTLE TOURS IS A FAMILY BUSINESS
21 PLUS YEARS EXPERIENCE
In 1996, Battle Tours began life taking tours to Vietnam. As these tours grew so did the interest from our travellers in military conflicts abroad. Battle Tours was soon arranging small group tours to Thailand, Gallipoli and the Western Front. Today we visit all four corners of the world with research and new tours in the planning. We plan tours for the individual, small group, schools, cadet groups and others to suit both your time frame and budget.
About the Directors
The Directors of Battle Tours, Ron and Jane Hodges both have military experience having served in the Royal Australian Navy. Both have family members who served in WWI and WWII.
One of Ron's grandfathers survived a sinking in WWI and another eventually died from the effects of being gassed. His father served for a short time in WWII before it was discovered he was underage. His uncle served in the Royal Navy during WWII doing escort work in the Atlantic.
Jane's great uncle arrived in Gallipoli in May of 1915 at the age of 18. He survived Gallipoli and died of wounds at the age of 21 after the Battle of Polygon Wood and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery in Belgium. A cousin also died at the Battle of Pozieres in 1916 after being in France for just a fortnight, he is buried in Puchevillers British Cemetery. An uncle served in WWII in the Middle East and New Guinea and suffered in his later years.
This connection keeps our interest alive and provides us with the enthusiasm to discover more about our forefather’s military history and also provides us with an empathy with those travellers that have relatives who served.
