Gallipoli ANZAC Day Tour - 15 days

Day 1 Wednesday 22nd April 2009
Istanbul
On your arrival in Istanbul you will be met and transferred to your accommodation.

Day 2 Thursday 23rd April
Istanbul (B)
This morning you are taken by coach on a city tour of Istanbul. The tour will include Topkapi Palace, the Sultanahmet Imperial Mosque, known as the Blue Mosque because of its magnificent interior decoration of blue Iznik tiles and also the Hippodrome. In the afternoon you visit the Spice Bazaar.

Day 3 Friday 24th April
Istanbul - Gallipoli (B)
This morning your air-conditioned coach will depart Istanbul for Gallipoli. It takes just under 5 hours to reach Gallipoli, on arrival you have lunch and then begin your tour of the Gallipoli Peninsula. We visit Gabatepe War Museum, Anzac Cove, Lone Pine Australia's Memorial and Cemetery, Quinn's Post, Turkish 57th Regiment Cemetery, The Nek, Chunuk-Bair New Zealand Memorial and Cemetery.
This evening you will depart for the dawn service.

Day 4 Saturday 25th April
Gallipoli - Troy - Ayvalik
At 4.30 am the dawn service begins. You can also go to the Australian National service at 10:30, the Turkish National Service at 11.45 and the New Zealand National service at 13:00.
Late afternoon you travel to Troy and visit the Trojan Horse and Helen of Troy. The coach will then take you to Ayvalik for your overnight stay.

Day 5 Sunday 26th April
Ayvalik - Pergamum - Kusadasi (B D)
This morning your coach will take you to Pergamum to see the Asklepion, Zeus alter and Red Basilica.
This afternoon you visit a carpet weaving centre on your way to Kusadasi.

Day 6 Monday 27th April
Kusadasi - Ephesus - Kusadasi (B D)
This morning you depart for Ephesus.
The tour of the ruins also includes a theatre, gymnasium, agora and baths, as well as the Library of Celsius.
After lunch, you will make a shopping tour and see the ancient arts of Turkey like leather manufacturing and jewellery.

Day 7 Tuesday 28th April
Kusadasi - Pamukkale (B D)
Today your coach we take you to Pamukkale. On arrival you will stop for lunch. In Pamukkale you will visit the calcium terraces of Pamukkale (cotton castle) and the ruins of Hierapolis, then walk around this natural phenomenon. You can also have a dip in the waters of the natural springs.
Tonight you will enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Day 8 Wednesday 29th April
Pamukkale - Dalyan (B D)
After breakfast you travel to the Turkish town of Dalyan. This very popular small town is not spoiled by buildings. The wonderful 7 kilometres sandy Iztuzu Beach, which is accessible by a 45 minutes boat trip, is one of the last nesting areas for the Caretta Caretta, Sea Turtles.
In the afternoon you take a short boat trip to the sulphur bath which is a different experience for many people visiting the city. Caunos, the ancient city near modern Dalyan, was founded around the 9th century BC. Caunos is famous for its rock-cut tombs. After this tour you return to your hotel to rest, relax and dine.

Day 9 Thursday 30th April
Dalyan - Antalya (B D)
This morning your coach will take you to Antalya. On the way you we see one of the best panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. In the afternoon you will pass ancient Lycian and have the chance to take photos of these breath taking scenes. After checking into your hotel in Antalya the rest of the evening is yours.

Day 10 Friday 1st May
Antalya - Perge - Aspendos (B D)
Today you travel to Perge and according to the geographer Strabon, Perge was founded by Akhas who came down there after the Trojan wars.
After your tour of Perge you departure for Aspendos and have lunch along the way.
The ruins of the ancient city are extensive and include a stadium, an agora, and a basilica. Tonight you will stay in Antalya and have dinner at the hotel.

Day 11 Saturday 2nd May
Antalya - Cappadocia (B D)
After breakfast you take the long coach trip to Cappadocia. After relaxing you will have the chance to go to a famous Traditional Turkish Night and enjoy Whirling Dervishes, Belly Dancing & Traditional Turkish Folklore accompanied by traditional Turkish food.

Day 12 Sunday 3rd May
Cappadocia (B D)
Today you will see the many sites of Cappadocia, including the volcanic area in which the geological formation started 10 million years ago. This evening you will have dinner at your hotel.

Day 13 Monday 4th May
Cappadocia - Ankara (B D)
We depart at 09:30 for one of the most interesting sites of Cappadocia Derinkuyu Underground City.
This afternoon your coach will take you to Ankara with lunch along the way.

Day 14 Tuesday 5th May
Ankara - Istanbul (B)
This morning you visit Ataturk Museum. Ataturk is the founder of the modern Turkey. In the afternoon you take a city tour of Ankara which is the 2nd biggest city in Turkey and is the capital.
Late afternoon your coach will take you back to Istanbul.

Day 15 Wednesday 6th May
Istanbul (B)
Today you can be transferred back to the airport for your flight home.
