Day 1 Thursday 9th April Istanbul (D)
On arrival in Istanbul you are met at the airport by your
tour leader and then transferred to your hotel in the old
city to rest from your long flight. This afternoon you visit
the Grand Bazaar, or Covered Market with it's labyrinth of
streets and passageways that house over 4000 shops. This evening
there is a group welcome dinner at a traditional Turkish restaurant
with entertainment including belly dancing.

Day 2 Friday 10th April Istanbul (B L)
Istanbul is the former capital of three successive empires,
Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman. Today it is one of the great
cities of the world with a population of around 12 million.
You begin your tour of this historical city with a visit to
Topkapi Palace, the historical site of the Ottoman Empire
from the 15th to 19th centuries and built on one of the seven
hills of Istanbul, this huge complex commands views of the
Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. After lunch
you visit the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Obelisks, the magnificent
Haghia Sophia and the impressive Underground Cistern, featured
in the 007 James Bond movie.
Day 3 Saturday 11th April Istanbul (B L)
Late morning you visit the Rumeli Fortress, Sultan Mehmet
the Conqueror ordered the great fortress of Rumeli Hisari
to be built at the narrowest part of the Bosphorus on the
European shore in order to control commercial and military
traffic in preparation for the siege Constantinople. You then
you take a private cruise on the Bosphorus, the winding waterway
that separates two continents, Europe and Asia, its shores
offer a scenic view of the past and present. You complete
the day with a visit to the Military Museum which chronicles
the Ottoman period and stores some striking historical treasures
such as the chain which the Byzantines stretched across the
mouth of the Golden Horn to keep out the Sultan's navy in
1453. You can also take in a performance of the world's oldest
military band, the Mehter.
Day 4 Sunday 12th April Istanbul - Canakkale (B L)
Departing Istanbul you drive down the Peninsula stopping en
route at the fishing port of Gelibolu (Gallipoli) for lunch.
Continuing down the coast you visit the fortifications at
Kiltbahir, In 1451 Sultan Mehmet II, built one fortress on
the European side of the Canakkale Strait at Kilitbahir, and
one on the opposite shore at Cimenlik, to guard the Narrows.
Both fortresses engaged the British and French Fleets in WW1,
in March 1915. After crossing the Dardanelles you book into
your hotel in the township of Canakkale.
Day 5 Monday 13th April Canakkale - Gallipoli (B L)
Commencing your tour of the Gallipoli Battlefields and Memorials,
you cross the Dardanelles to the Peninsula, and visit Brighton
Beach which was the intended landing spot of the Anzacs, (although
today many historians question this) Shrapnel Gully and Plugges
Plateau Cemetery, Anzac Cove where the Australian and New
Zealand troops first landed, Beach Cemetery, the burial place
of the legendary John Simpson, North Beach where the Anzac
Day Service is held and the landing Beaches at Cape Helles
.

6 Tuesday 14th April Canakkale - Gallipoli (B L)
Returning to the battlefields you visit the Kabatepe War Museum
with its WW1 artifacts, Quinn's post, the tunnels and trenches
at Johnston Jolly, Lone Pine Australian Memorial, the Turkish
Memorial, the Nek, site of the Light Horse charge depicted
in the movie Gallipoli, Walkers Ridge and Chunuk-Bair New
Zealand Memorial. On your return to Canakkale you stop to
visit the Cimenlik Fortress and Museum and the replica Turkish
minelayer Nusrat.
Day 7 Wednesday 15th April Canakkale - Troy Ayvalik (B L D)
Mid morning you depart Canakkale and travel to ancient Troja
to view the ruins and the replica Trojan Horse. After lunch
in Troy you travel to Ayvalik, a North Aegean seaside resort,
surrounded by groves of olive trees which produce much of
Turkey's best olive oil. This small township boasts magnificent
Aegean Architecture and the seafood restaurants along its
shores are known to be amongst the best in Turkey.
Day 8 Thursday 16th April Ayvalik - Pergamon - Kusadasi (B L D)
Departing Ayvalik for Kusadasi you stop enroute at the ancient
city of Pergamum known for two of the countries most treasured
sites, the Acropolis with its wealth of archaeological ruins
and the Asklepion one of the earliest medical and therapeutic
centres. Kusadasi caters for the tourist with its beaches,
bars and variety of restaurants.
Day 9 Friday 17th April Kusadasi Ephesus - Kusadasi (B L D)
After breakfast you depart for Ephesus and visit the ruins
of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the
world in ancient times. Continuing on to the ruins of Ephesus,
one of the best preserved cities of the Eastern Mediterranean,
you walk along the old marble road and explore some of the
best preserved theatres, fountains and buildings in the world.
After visiting the house of the Virgin Mary you return to
Kusadasi.
Day 10 Saturday 18th April Kasadasi - Pamukkale (B L D)
This morning you depart for Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) one
of the most unique places in the world, a magical and spectacular
natural site. Thermal spring waters laden with calcareous
salts running of the plateaus edge have created this fantastic
formation of stalactites, cataracts and basins. You also visit
the ancient ruins of the City of Hierapolis with its Bascilica,
theatre and Roman Baths. This evening is our group farewell
dinner.
Day 11 Sunday 19th April Pamukkale - Istanbul (B L)
After breakfast you drive back to Istanbul. Lunch is provided
and refreshment stops are made along the way. Your evening
is at leisure
Day 12 Monday 20th April Istanbul (B)
Your tour finishes and you are transferred to the airport
to join the Western Front Anzac Day tour. Those not travelling
to the Western Front, transfer to the airport for their flights
home.
Day 13 Monday 20th April Istanbul - Brussels (B D)
Today you are transferred back to the airport for your flight
to Brussels. On arrival you are transferred to your hotel.
This evening you have a group dinner.
Day 14 Tuesday 21st April Brussels – Waterloo - Ypres (B L)
This morning you board the coach and travel to the battlefield
of Waterloo. On the 18th of June 1815, 191.300 soldiers fought
one of the most decisive battles in the history of Europe
in only one day. The Wellington army had 67,000 soldiers,
Blucher's army 52,300 and Napoleon's army 72,000. A total
of 48,500 men fell or were severely wounded on this day. After
visiting the battle site you lunch in the township of Waterloo
and visit the Museum. You then travel to Ypres and after booking
into your hotel your evening is at leisure.
Day 15 Wednesday 22nd April Ypres (B L)
Commencing your tour of the battlefield and Memorials of the
Ypres Salient you visit the Ploegsteert Wood Memorial, Shot
at dawn soldier Pte McBride, Christmas Truce site, The Peace
Tower, Messines and the Mine Crater, the reconstructed German
Trenches at Bayonwald, Hill 60 Australian Tunnel Coy Memorial
and the Hooge Crater and museum. Lunch is at Mount Kemmel
and this evening you attend the Last Post Ceremony at the
Menin Gate.
Day 16 Thursday 23rd April Ypres (B L)
After breakfast you visit Polygon Wood, the 5th Australian
Division Memorial, Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth
Cemetery in the world, where two Australian VC winners, Capt.
Jeffries and Sgt McGee are laid to rest, Broodseine where
gas was first used and Poelkapelle where the youngest known
soldier who was 13 years and 310 days old is buried. You lunch
at Langemark and then visit Essex Farm, where the poem “In
Flanders Fields” was written, Poperinge, the 'Shooting
Post' and 'Toc H' and Lijssenthoek, the second largest Commonwealth
Cemetery in Belgium. You return to Ypres and later walk the
ancient Ramparts and visit the Flanders field Museum.
Day 17 Friday 24th April Ypres - Amiens (B L)
After breakfast you depart Ypres for Amiens stopping on the
way to visit VC Corner Australian Cemetery and Fromelles Australian
Memorial Park. The central feature of the park is the statue
of an Australian soldier bringing in a wounded comrade. This
statue recognises the heroism of the many unknown soldiers
who ventured out into no-mans land to bring in the wounded
cobbers. The statue is by Peter Corlett of Melbourne and was
inaugurated on 5 July 1998. It stands on the old German front
line captured by the 14th Brigade and held overnight. It is
a depiction of a 40 year old ex farmer from Victoria: Sergeant
Simon Fraser of the 57th Battalion AIF. The Allied Command
had refused to enter into any negotiations to bring in the
dead and wounded. Over the next three days survivors of the
5th Division went out into no-mans land to retrieve their
comrades. Whilst he was out on the battle field Fraser heard
a wounded man shout out: Don't forget me, cobber. The injured
soldier was rescued on Fraser's next venture out. A boxed
lunch is provided and after booking into your hotel in Amiens
your time is at leisure for rest or sightseeing, tomorrow
will be a very early start.
Day 18 Saturday 25th April Amiens (B) ANZAC DAY
A pre dawn wake up call will be arranged along with coffee
and tea. You then depart for the dawn service at the Australian
War Memorial in Villers-Bretonneux. This magnificent structure
carries the names of 11,000 Australian diggers who lost their
lives and have no known grave. After the traditional moving
service you travel into Villers Bretonneux for breakfast and
then visit the Victoria school noted for the sign over the
playground…Do not forget AUSTRALIA. You will also have
time to visit the school museum before joining in the march
to the town square. After the march you return to your hotel
for a well earned rest.
Day 19 Sunday 26th April Amiens (B L)
Today will be a late start to allow you to recover from yesterday's
long day. Late morning you return to Villers Bretonneux to
visit the Adelaide Cemetery and Australian Memorial Park at
Le Hamel and the 3rd Division Memorial at Sailly Le Sec. You
will also walk the Battlefields where Monash`s detailed tactics
resulted in all objectives being taken in just 93 minutes.
Day
20 Monday 27th April Amiens (B L)
After breakfast you retrace the footsteps of the 1st, 2nd
and 4th Australian Divisions who in 45 days, launched 19 attacks
and lost 23,000 men in an area of about two square miles.
You then visit Albert and Pozieres where you will see the
'Windmill', then onto Mouquet (Mucky) Farm, Fricourt German
Cemetery and the Thiepval Memorial and visitor's centre.
Day 21 Tuesday 28th April Amiens - Paris (B)
Late morning you take the coach to Paris and after booking
into your hotel the remainder of the day is at leisure to
discover this magnificent city.
Day 22 Wednesday 29th April Paris (B)
This morning you enjoy a half day city tour visiting the Eiffel
Tower, Champs Elysee, Opera, Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame.
The afternoon and evening are at leisure to allow you to continue
your sightseeing.
Day 23 Thursday 30th April Paris (B)
Today your tour ends and you are transferred to the airport
for your flights home. Those continuing the tour to Normandy
will board their coach.

Extension
Day 23 Thursday 30th April Normandy (B L)
This morning you board your coach to Normandy and book into
your hotel. After lunch you visit Ranville Cemetery, Pegasus
Bridge-the site of the British Glider and Airborne assaults,
and Sword Beach.
Day 24 Friday 1st May Normandy (B L)
This morning you visit Juno and Gold Beaches, Arromanches
and the Mulberry Harbour. After lunch, your time is free to
explore Bayeux.
Day 25 Saturday 2nd May Normandy (B L)
This morning you travel to Omaha Beach, where the casualty
rates in the early stages of the assault were some 50%. Then
onto the unforgettable Omaha Cemetery, Point du Hoc-site of
action of two ranger Battalions, then via Carentan to Utah
Beach and Ste. Mere-Eglise.
Day 26 Sunday 3rd May Normandy - Paris (B)
After Breakfast you return to Paris and after booking into
your hotel your time is at leisure.
Day 27 Monday 4th May Paris (B)
Today your tour ends.
